Running Issue on 85 GS

Ok, here is the story on this one. Sat for 3 plus years, fuel and fuel pump replaced prior to my purchase. The car will start and idle pretty good. As soon as you touch the gas pedal it boogs and dies. If I pump the throttle up to higher revs, it cleans up and runs fine.

The following has been done:

took carb off and cleaned it (spray everywhere)
Checked butterfly movement
seafoam in fuel
new plugs, wires, cap rotor (needed anyway)
new fuel filter

It's gotta be something fairly simple, or a carb rebuild (my guess)

Let me know your thoughts or experience.

Accelerator pump adjusted correctly? Can you see fuel squirting down the carb even with a small touch of the throttle? Im guessing its carbed, not sure of exact year/ model changes to efi. Dont know about nikkis but I think backing the adjuster out is to richen. Try a search about adjusting them, ive heard theres alot of info here just gotta find it.

After sitting for three years, I'd say you're going to need a carb rebuild. The actual problem you are having sounds like the accelerator pump, which is included in the rebuild kit.

Spend some time reading up on these carbs at www.sterlingmetalworks.com You'll find all sorts of info on rebuilding and tuning.

I did some looking around here, and the accelerator pump keeps coming up. I'll check it out.

If the AP is good, then it's time to clean out the tank and pull the fuel supply/return unit and clean it. Also check/replace the fuel filter by the tank and the fuel screens under the banjo bolts for the fuel supply to the carb.
