rough weird skipping sound w/ choke on

when i first start the 85 GSL with the choke on it kinda kicks real rough like its skipping... if i apply gas it sounds fine, and if i drop the choke down it goes almost silent. anyone know why it could be sputtering so bad with the choke on?

Mine does that to. The choke should automaticly go to half way in 30 to 70 seconds then slowly go the rest of the way in as the engine warms. Maybe its not working right?
