ROTA group buy info

Hi everyone! its been a while since I got some info back from Rota- so I decided to start a new thread since the original one got really long!

Well I have some bad news & some good news:

Bad news- The Rota factory in the Phillipines is reluctant to produce the GT3 & the JSPL wheels for us. seems these wheels were designed for front wheel drive cars & will take significant re-tooling to meet our offset needs.

Good news- Rota will produce their new RB wheel (designed for rwd cars - see photo) for us in 15x7 with the correct bolt pattern (4x110mm) but the wheel has not been released yet here- it will be on sale in about 1 to 2 months.

If we join the group buy for these wheels- we would be among the first to get them in America- I hope the guys that wanted the Jspl & GT3 wheels will jump on this group buy for the RB wheel.

Now I had mentioned to Rota about the offset issue we are having- some say +22 is good, others +17 & then zero offset was also mentioned- I peronally did a dummy wheel out of wood & tried different offsets & came up with +18 but now that I am about to upgrade my suspension (RB springs/Tokico shocks/Suspnsion Techniques swaybars/new tierods & balljoints/'85 struts & front brakes) I will run the test again to make shure that this offset will keep the wheels inside the fenders with no rubbing now that the car will be lower. Rota will send me 1 set of wheels to "try out" on my car before I take any orders for more.

Hey Rotrmotr, thought this one fell off the planet. Sucks about the other rims, it'd be nice to be different from the Minilte, Superlite and all the other copies.

Keep up the good work man.

Steve

No I don't think so- According to the info my Rota contact gave me- they are only producing these in a 15x7 size for the 4x110 bolt pattern.

$350 for 4????

wow, that sounds awesome. maybe i'll wait on the other things I have going on, and hold out for the RB's.

Do they come with different colored centers?

i have other wheels now but i just wanted to say that ive seen the j.spl's in person now and they dont look too hot in my opinion, even on a honda where it belongs it just didnt look very cool.....the shop i saw them at said rota is very backed up with business so it's probably only been hard to talk to them because they are so stacked with orders and back orders.......

figures.. now that i get ready to buy a set of 1983 LE wheels.. time to rethink things once again.

what kind of deal do we get for how many people? can we get this set in stone at all? i guess it was price drop at 10 and free shipping at 15 or something form the last thread? (dont quote me on those figures anyone, im asking)

Hey Guys- I spoke to Rota today- they said its better to wait until I have the first set just to make shure they fit without any problems- then we can place the order- they want to make shure on the fitment first before the order is placed- will keep everyone posted.

I heard it's going to be a shitty offset like a 0. and that would suck for us cause Mazda used closter to a +20. I run +7 15x7 and they stick out a little too far.

He's working the offset issue, which is why it's taking this long. He's going to get a set, put them on and make sure they fit right before getting list/sales/etc. From the sounds of it, ROTA is doing some retooling or adjustments with their current tooling to try and accomodate us.

I want these too, but if ROTA doesn't make them fit right, there is no point.
