Once I get my engine apart and get an idea of how expensive my rebuild is going to run me I'll come back to this nifty sounding MOP modification.

Since this got bumped up, here is an SAE tech paper on the effects of premix on rotaries: http://foxed.ca/rx-7/SAE%20papers/rotary-oil.pdf

If this is your website, can you tell me why all these pdf's DL too slow? Maybe I'm not patient enough, when I open it in the browser it doesn't show. If I save target, it will download it, but takes about 20 minutes. You must get a lot of traffic.

Beautifully done as well as a great writeup.

I have one question though. Does the OMP get pressurized oil stock and if so, does it matter that it's just being gravity fed now?
I would assume that since it's a metering pump, being gravity fed should be fine since it is a pump, I'm just wondering.

So some people are concerned that a gravity fed tank might siphon too much oil through the pump. (I've read this might happen while the car is in storage or parked for an extended period.)
And the other concern (mine) is that the non-pressurized tank may NOT flow enough through the tubing if it is too long or too narrow. The viscosity might starve the pump.
So what is the proper hose length and inner diameter to flow enough...but not too much?
What works?

I have this on my car. I am using a system similar to Sgt Fox, gravity fed, but mine is just attached to the side of the radiator surround. It spends the vast majority of its time sitting in my garage, and is driven for MAYBE 500 miles a year I hope to change that this year though.
That being said, I have had this mod for years. In that time I have done numerous 2-3 hour highway drives, trips to The Dragon, and Atlanta city driving. Non of which have posed a problem with this OMP setup. I do have one issue. When the car has sat for an extended period of time the oil seems to drain out of the OMP lines, but not the feed line. So for the first time I drive it after a long sitting period, I premix and let it idle for a little bit while I manually have the OMP pulled fully open to refill the tubes. It takes a little time this way, 10-15 minutes. Alternately, I sometimes just premix and drive. After a short drive the lines are usually refilled and ready to go.
IIRC, my feed line is approximately 1/2", or whatever size the nipple on the adapter is. I know I had to switch the nipple on my reservoir to match it. The line is approximately 12" long and at an angle of around 45*(that's just a guess). If desired, I can get pics and more specific details.

Sorry to revive an old thread. With the install of the Sohn adapter, is the OMP modified to where it is always in the open/on position?
Im thinking of running a Sohn adapter on my 12a but I may not run the nikki carb set up. How is the OMP actuated if you run a different intake/carb set up?
Thanks!!!!

Other wise you'd make your own linkage to actuate it or secure the lever to a fixed position. Problem with the latter is that it's not really metering the oil. Some fix it in the middle, but that would waste oil off throttle/idling.
