I got the labels printed up. If anyone really wants one, I have a few extra.

So is this working out pretty well still? I'd like to do this to my S3 SE this summer.

Alright sweet, I'm going to replicate your mod. Does he make an adapter for the 13B-REGI?

I don't know much about MOPs and differences between them, but why isn't there a S5 electronic adapter available? I clicked on the link to RA and they don't have that listed.

Call him. He had everything in stock when I called around New Years. I fell on some hard financial times, but I'm hoping to get the 12a version sometime this summer.

You've got my understanding with the financial times. I've needed a rebuild for the last 8 months. This just isn't the economy to indulge in hobbies. Fortunately I just landed a 2nd job and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Once I get my engine apart and get an idea of how expensive my rebuild is going to run me I'll come back to this nifty sounding MOP modification.

Since this got bumped up, here is an SAE tech paper on the effects of premix on rotaries: http://foxed.ca/rx-7/SAE%20papers/rotary-oil.pdf

If this is your website, can you tell me why all these pdf's DL too slow? Maybe I'm not patient enough, when I open it in the browser it doesn't show. If I save target, it will download it, but takes about 20 minutes. You must get a lot of traffic.

I've only got about 100kb/s upload due to lame traffic shaping. Best idea is to right click, save as.

Sarg, can you clarify something for me? How long is the hose between tank and adapter? What is the inner diameter of the hose? I ask because I'm worried a 1/4 inch hose over 3 feet long won't flow enough.
How is your hose holding up?

And how many miles so far?

The OMP only dribbles oil in at a maximum of 2.4cc every 6 minutes, 2.4cc is .08 oz.

I'm running an adapter on my S4 13B since I've rebuilt it just over 50,000 miles ago.

Beautifully done as well as a great writeup.

Beautifully done as well as a great writeup.

I have one question though. Does the OMP get pressurized oil stock and if so, does it matter that it's just being gravity fed now?

I would assume that since it's a metering pump, being gravity fed should be fine since it is a pump, I'm just wondering.

Sgt Fox, have you noticed any issue with oil siphoning from the tank into the engine with the elevation of your tank being above the oil injection location?

So some people are concerned that a gravity fed tank might siphon too much oil through the pump. (I've read this might happen while the car is in storage or parked for an extended period.)

And the other concern (mine) is that the non-pressurized tank may NOT flow enough through the tubing if it is too long or too narrow. The viscosity might starve the pump.

So what is the proper hose length and inner diameter to flow enough...but not too much?
What works?

I have this on my car. I am using a system similar to Sgt Fox, gravity fed, but mine is just attached to the side of the radiator surround. It spends the vast majority of its time sitting in my garage, and is driven for MAYBE 500 miles a year I hope to change that this year though.

That being said, I have had this mod for years. In that time I have done numerous 2-3 hour highway drives, trips to The Dragon, and Atlanta city driving. Non of which have posed a problem with this OMP setup. I do have one issue. When the car has sat for an extended period of time the oil seems to drain out of the OMP lines, but not the feed line. So for the first time I drive it after a long sitting period, I premix and let it idle for a little bit while I manually have the OMP pulled fully open to refill the tubes. It takes a little time this way, 10-15 minutes. Alternately, I sometimes just premix and drive. After a short drive the lines are usually refilled and ready to go.

IIRC, my feed line is approximately 1/2", or whatever size the nipple on the adapter is. I know I had to switch the nipple on my reservoir to match it. The line is approximately 12" long and at an angle of around 45*(that's just a guess). If desired, I can get pics and more specific details.

Does this same thing happen with a stock OMP? I've never paid attention other than opening the OPM's lever to full while I warm the car up after it has sat for a while.

For what it is worth, mine does not drain out while sitting. My flow rate was measured and shimmed to be slightly more than stock, being gravity fed had no effect.

I couldn't tell you. Just to reiterate, this is after long periods of sitting. As Sgt Fox stated above, his does not seem to act the same, so it could simply be an issue that is fixable. I have just never worried about it since my car is driven so rarely.

For what its worth, I have a fresh rebuilt pump. I also now have weber dcd's but I'm fairly certain I never had an issue with the nikki either.

Sorry to revive an old thread. With the install of the Sohn adapter, is the OMP modified to where it is always in the open/on position?

Im thinking of running a Sohn adapter on my 12a but I may not run the nikki carb set up. How is the OMP actuated if you run a different intake/carb set up?

Thanks!!!!

1988 and older rotaries use a lever on the omp to control the metering, you'd still use it with the Sohn adapter if you have the stock set up.

Other wise you'd make your own linkage to actuate it or secure the lever to a fixed position. Problem with the latter is that it's not really metering the oil. Some fix it in the middle, but that would waste oil off throttle/idling.
