rewiring coils and ignitors (for eventual 2GCDFIS)

A while back i lent my car to my little brother for awhile, which turned out to be a bad idea because in the process he did some nasty stuff to it. I started workin on it again just to find a bad clutch master, a leaking carb, a different alternator (my dual pulley alt. is nowhere to be found), and the worst hack job DLIDFIS i've ever seen.

So all is fixed but the ignition, and it is terrible, i cut out most of it and just want to rewire it back to the stock ignition first, and then put in my 2nd gen coil without TT for now. I already rewired the leading pickup in the dizzy so it is only going to one ignitor now. Im putting in a 30amp relay so my coils can have a better power source, and I just want to know what needs the switched power on the ignitors or on the coils, and what i hook up from the ignitor to coil. My entire harness has been chopped up and no wire is the same color anymore, so I need to start fresh for my own sanity. I have some wires with more than three butt connectors in them, its really ugly, so please help.

As you may know, the front ignitor is leading, the one closest to the alt is trailing. Each ignitor has two terminals: The top (horizontal) goes to coil negative. The bottom (vertical) gets switched 12v. You can use Jeff20B's avatar as a reference.

The coil + is switched 12v. The coil - goes to the ignitor C terminal (top terminal). For the coils, one closest to the front of the car is trailing.

Also take a look at the thread by Kim's FB in the archive. There is some diagrams that may help.

ok, thats making more sense now. Correct me if im wrong, but i'll only need to run a better power source to the coils right? So thats where im wiring in my relay. I'm gonna start running new wires now and setup my relay real quick.

anyone else have any input?

Yes, the coils are what need the upgraded power souce the most. Since you are running new wires anyway, I would just run the ignitor power to the coil + as well. This is how it is stock.

Good luck.
