Unhappy Reverse Gear turns on Fuel Pump?????

well, today, my father was sitting in my car, without the keys in the ignition, and he puts it into reverse. I hear noise....

crawled under the back of the car, touched the fuel pump, it was vibrating... unplugged its power, and the noise stopped. However, it is not the same noise/speed as when i turn the ignition on... but it's still really strange.

i do have problems with my rear light assembly, that i have yet to work out, but i dont think that putting the car in reverse should even remotely turn the fuel pump on....

help?

Sounds like you have an earth fault thats finding a path back to earth through the reversing light circuit

look for bare/broken wires in the loom for the pump and the reverse light switch ... I am not 100% certain but they may be on the same part of the loom

Dude, you guys refer to the "ground" as "earth"? I don't know why but that just struck me as really odd. haha guess I'm weird.

I know, I've been to england they use a lot of different terms over there. I did read over that section of the manual, guess I missed the one. I think "bonnet" instead of "hood" is the best
