Replacing clutch

About to drop my Tranny and replace my clutch.

Any helpful hints, Suggested Tools, Gaskets I need to buy prior to doing the job that you guys can think of.

Doing this in my garage with pretty basic set of craftsman tools... So any information that will make my life easier is appreciated.

The alignment tool is nice to have. I got mine for 1.50 from Advance Auto parts.

A transmission jack is nice to have. . .. . but not needed.

I'd replace the throwout and pilot bearing.

I have done this 2 times in the last month. I think I can be of help.

I would take a good hard look at your pilot bearing! It is the little bearing inside of your shaft on the flywheel in side the nut. Check to see if it rotates well and if it has plenty of lube. I suggest if it doesnt have a seal for it go ahead and get one. It will be alot easier to pull it when it hasnt broken and mashed it self to the shaft.

But if that looks ok then.

Music to help pass the time. It alwasy help when im singing along with the jams trying to get that bolt loose.

soda, H20, beer, etc.. always good to have on hand.

oh and make sure you have a way to put the oil back in the tranny. like a pump or a long hose to run from the engine bay down to the tranny.

I highly suggest Royal Purple gear oil !!!!!!! You will feel the difference!!!! Also grease up your shifter too. Just dip the ball in some grease!

PS dont be like me and drain the oil BEFORE you pull the drive shaft. It will leak!

I think that about covers it!

Thanks

thank you all very much for your insight... the kit I purchased comes with clutch, pressure plate, pilot-bearing throw-out, and alignment tool, so I think I'm covered there.

Gotta go buy a torque wrench... and that pilot bearing seal... autozone?

Other than that,
Got the beer,
Got the Sub,

Surprised no one mentioned having a female on call for orally supplied stress relief...
