Got these today, looks like the vw bug/bus clips and seals are a direct replacement for ours. I have a few seals still on my 84 that I can compare if anyone is interested with some installed pics. I'm making my own cards with my 83 gsl moldy ones as templates. The Mazda clip in the pic is from that 83.
This is the size and thickness for the card stock needed for one door.
Edit: I have not built the door card yet, that panel height should fit with reusing the s2 upper section that is stapled into the old card. Problem with that acrylic would be stapling into it. Might be better just to use the right stuff in the first place.
Now, if someone knows a state side source for a kit like this... That would be nice. Liked the way it worked when i saw it on mcm. The heat shrink aspect made for a nice install.
Another source I found was on BlackDragon site (who used to stock RX7 bits too) -
There Sunbeam Tiger/Alpine door panel clips/rubber inserts look to be identical too...
The original style clips can sometimes break the door cards. Often the old cards become "soft" with age and if someone just pulls on the edge of the panel instead of using a pry tool to reach behind it, the clip can pull through the card.
I've saw repairs for this condition just by using a small strip of self adhesive velcro stuck to both the door frame and back of door card. Seems to work well and eliminates the need for both the clip and rubber nipple.
I could see that working if a couple of the clips had pulled through. Once you get to this point though, the only thing holding the panel on are the upper hook shape and the bolts/screws for the handle. This is the clean section of my junk. I have panel pliers too, the problem I had is that the clips rusted to the door without the seals.
