Question Replacement clutch?

The time has come to get a new clutch in my '84 GSL-SE. After 118k, and 12k of that being AutoX'd, drag, and daily'd, it's held up pretty dang well for a stock unit.

Now, I'm really looking for a stock replacement. Does anyone know if Sachs are any good? I've heard good things on Honda's, VR6's, but I'm not sure if it'd be a good part on my RX-7. I'm not looking to build my car for more power, as all I have is an RB cat replacement pipe, but am looking for reliability that would withstand autocross abuse and daily driving duties (until my Starion comes out of the shop...).

I bring up Sachs as I get a huge discount (ie shop cost) since I work at a parts place.

From my searches, I hear Centerforce is a good one to look at, but beyond that I really don't know the general consensus on Sachs.

i guess it depends on how you plan on driving...Sachs is a nice aftermarket unit. they usually make oem type replacements. oem mazda units are really nice as well.

Sachs kit with a resurface is $100. It'll just be at autocross anyway, and occasional DD (when it's nice!)

For VW, I like sachs. For Mazda, I like Daikin/Exedy as stock replacements. I was wholey impressed with their 215mm disc I recently installed on a friend's rotary 510 conversion.

As for 225mm GSL-SE, I'd have to say Daikin/Exedy even though I'm not sure what their latest offering looks like or how it performs. If it's anything like their 215mm, which it probably is, I'd say go for Daikin/Exedy. Atkins sells them.

I recently had to replace the clutch in my car, after 3 years of autox, track days, and daily driving. I used the Daikin/Exedy OEM 225mm kit (83 model). I love it.
FWIW, the old clutch was a Daikin/Exedy PP and some generic disc. The PP still had good feel to it, even though it had outlived 2 discs (at least). I found marks on the surface of the PP where clutch rivets had been in contact previously, while the disc wasn't worn that far down, yet. I guess the previous owner had cheaped out on the last clutch job........
Had the surface of the PP not been worn to the point it was actually hitting the center metal plate of the clutch disc, I doubt it would have started slipping under full throttle.
Like Jeff says, the Daikin/Exedy OEM clutch setup is very high quality. At $110 (retail) for the complete kit, it is also a good bargain.
