CA Replaced coil in 84 gsl se

I took a short trip and on the return trip car started running rough, felt like it was missing, pulled coil wire on coil closest to battery-spark..pulled wire from other coil-no spark, made sense. I replaced the coil and it sterted right up, a few minutes later I pulled the wire on the new coil..no spark. like an idiot I didn't check it right away to verify that it was in fact sparking...any ideas?

If you have no spark to the leading plugs then the leading ignitor is bad. Replace the ignitor.

the J109 ingnitors are secured to the distributor via two screws each. there are two ignitors and they are black in color. you will see the wiring harness going to the distributor contains two connectors, each with two pins. i can get a pic if you need.

both are on the distributor. The leading is on the side facing the alt. Trailing is facing drivers side. If you need a good igniter, post on the first gen classifieds, lots of guys have em and they go for much less than you can buy otherwise.

Or just buy a 2 MSD 6A CD ignitions that works great for my 7 and my Rotary 510 with no problem for over 8 years. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-6200/ MSD is pricey but its worth the price. I think its cheaper that the stock distributor igniter. But if you can find one for less than 50 or 75 dollars and in good condition, that will be awesome.
