Here's the link to the dyno plot. The car tested ran 168 to the wheels before the ECU was installed and 192 afterwards.

The ECU is able to detect that the car is on a dyno and cuts torque or does something to lower the power output. There is no way in hell the rx-8 has 168 rwhp. Just looking at the fact that the car weighs 3050 + 150 lb driver..that makes it about 3200 lbs. The trap speed is 95 MPH (as judge ito and other really good drivers get). doing a calculation you would see the HP to the wheels is alot more than that. But that dyno plot does show that canzoomers mod adds about 25 HP to the wheels. |
mine dynoed at 183ish rwhp [i'll have to look for sure] in 98degF sea level with TCS pseudo-disabled. It "feels" relatively accurate. I don't have any other method at my disposal other than putting the sensors in parallel or otherwise COMPLETELY disabling the TCS. There are literally thousands of posts on this issue at the RX8 forum. Mind numbing. I gave up.
The RX-8 is unbelievably FUN regardless of the dyno sheets! It is amazingly well mannered and does everything well. |
bump for a update by any chance

My left hand was crushed a couple of years ago. I recently had additional surgery, and it has not and probably will not recover well enough to drive a high performance vehicle.
I am concidering my options, I have waited a LONG time to do this project. I don't want to kill it, but what's the use in building it if my mom could out drive me in it? I have a difficult time with my six speed RX-8. I cannot turn the steering wheel with my left hand. Steering with my right hand only is VERY difficult and dangerous. Not to mention tireing. Anyone have one handed racing experience? |
getting a LHD rx8 may work if u think u could shift with ur left hand
|
Check out http://www.gforceengineering.net/ for some awesome custom coilovers and camber plates made for the 1st GEN.
|
my buddy only has one arm and he can whip that steering wheel around mad quick!
|
someone has already done this i have seen it and read about it when i first got my 7 about 4 months ago i cant remember where but i have been thinking about how swwet it would be to do this swap. good luck

I agree. With all the money you're spending, put out the extra few k and buy a right-hand-drive SA or FB.

halo!
Why not buy a Fb from South Africa ? You could probaly get it for alot cheaper here, with the dollar to Rand ratio Karis |
Suspension Upgrades:
I have heard rumours that a Miata rear suspension will fit in an FB with minimal fuss. Also, there is a writeup at BCRX7 on how to get a second gen front suspension and cradle into a 1st gen. Also minimal fuss. So, you get full independent suspension, rack and peanut steering, more brake options on the front (where they’ll do the most good), lighter front suspension (aluminum arms), etc, etc, etc. If this car is going to be ultra custom like you’re saying, this is the way to go. |

I knew a man with one "dead" arm which he could not move at all due to nerve damage. He managed to steer and drive manual transmission cars.
|
I can steer and shift, but NOT drive well. This car will be more than a workout. To push it for more than a few second drag race [which I have no interest in] on a road coarse for 45 minutes, IMHO would be impossible.
|
i learned to drive with my right arm in a cast. i agree with someone up there that if you had a LHD you would be ok..shifting doesnt require much...

The chassis and all parts are now for sale. You can see some the pieces on the website.
I will be out of town next week and will take as many pics as can when I return. I will probably sell it Auction style. The RX-8 is for sale as well - too frustrating. Yellow, 11k, CZ1 piggypack, RE Amemia front bumper, delivered July 15th 2003 - 1st group in US. |
a 4 port RENESIS would make the most power! but it only came in the automatic RX-8's
6 port's no fun... that's why N/A FC 6 port feel slow top end along w/ port job.. the RENESIS should do well but i have a feeling you'd milk the most power out of the motor by carb'ing it! 51 IDA perhaps? |
If the 4-port is supposed to make so much more power, why is it mated with an automatic?
I actually think the 6-port makes more USABLE power when done properly, and hence the reason for it. But never having driven one that's just a matter of my personal opinion. While I *love* carbed setups, I'd like to see the renesis shine with FI. I know that Aaron Cake (2nd Gen Section Mod, great guy) is really good with FI setups, someone might want to give him a shout with some questions. Either way, it's an awesome swap to do. I know that recently someone posted a thread with some images of a Japanese-made Renesis FB swap that included the radio, the console and actually was done to pass Jap emissions standards... I think here we'd be going for the "screw emissions, let's go for power and coolness" setup, but the idea is still way cool. Good luck dude, I hope that something works through for ya. Jon |

yea i know 4 port had lower HP, but then again, it's all controlled by stock ECU + auto tranny.. and we all know stock 8 ECU is :gay:
maybe a stand alone would change all that if memory serves me right, the Mazda F1 race car was using a 4 port RENESIS 13b when it won some 1st place pole finishes btw, who said carb's are unreliable?? constant tweaking?? lol ONLY PROBLEM i do see w/ carb's is that they're not adaptable under certain conditions. Unlike an ECU controlled car, it would correct most of the pressure and temp. changes.. low/high elevation... etc... that's the only downfall i do see fr. carb's. then again, seems like you're a ballin' thug.. so i respect your ideas btw.. i don't have deep pockets, hence me liking carbs! :D |
also, reason why I THINK 6 port is used for manual is because of a more usable torque band that makes most of its power in the mid RPM range.. that's why it's a stock car for daily driving.... almost similar to an s4 or s5 all motor FC
I don't think made the rx8 for all top end purposes because again.. it's for daily driving and it's a factory car just like the 8, all motor FC feels fast right when you floor it throughout the midRPM range but past 6k, there's simply no more juice and car seems to be going nowhere. |
btw, who said carb's are unreliable?? constant tweaking?? lol The Weber was more of a custom setup on a non-stock motor. Lots of tweaking to balance high-end, mid-range, low-end power, idle, and starting. That's for a street car. My race shop buddies tweak the carbs [usually Weber] for each track. Even a completely custom injection system like MOTEC or whatever requires the same tweaking, it just goes faster, is more accurate, consistent, and adapts to changing environmental conditions. then again, seems like you're a ballin' thug.. so i respect your ideas |
