cosmetic 4 light system. One that opens only half of the stock unit.

I know I have that link around here. I'll post it as soon as I find it.

I can't seem to find it but this is a page that seems to have alot of links to poke around in. I'm pretty sure that light system your looking for is a custom job. Shouldn't be too hard to pull off though.

I know I'm being a post whore but here... this was said to be usable on First gen rx-7's.

sweet. If it doesn't fit. I at least know what's in it. An HID system with proper beam spread is the way to go.
|
Yeah I'm going to do HID in both of my cars in the near future... only thing is the proper system is about 600 bucks per car. Which isn't bad but I would like to have a car that deserves the HID kit. Can't have people lookin at it if nothing is special you know.

1stRX8: Which side of Houston are you on? I'd love to stop by and see the project of help in any way possible.

Stafford on the SW side.
I'll PM my cell # to you |

Quite an endevour you've taken on. But it's good to see that you have a budget and facilities to make it happen. You might want to check out a project done by some one in Canada and I think one or two in Japan, that swapped complete FD mechanicals (including suspension) into FB chassis's. I'm sure some one on this forum has links to these cars. Best of wishes and I really look forward to the end product. Let me know if you want any information on Mariah. I have a few pieces from them on my car. https://www.rx7club.com//attachment....postid=2538898 -Bern My turbo FB http://home.earthlink.net/~brhslm/ |
I spoke with Jim Susko at G-Force engineering. VERY helpful and very pleasant. I expect to buy "one of each" from him.
I am revising my weight estimate to 2050lbs based on our conversation. Maybe under 2000 if I really put the effort in. At that weight, I may not need a brake upgrade as the original car was 2850lbs and the brakes were decent then. He also suggested staying with a stock rim diameter to optimize the geometry of the setup. I have no argument with the principle - but I never seen ANY cool looking 14" wheels. Even 15" are hard to come by. I |

Ugly IMHO.

Ugly IMHO. Plus they are a measly 5.5in wide. I bit small for the 280hp motor.

Love the idea, make sure you document it all.

You may still want to consider a break upgrade, possibly getting powerslot rotors. They are just slotted so they hold up and I've heard some considerably good things about them. And having driven my SE fast and also drivin my FD.. The FD way out performs the SE in breaking. And going with more power, its great to go fast but important to be able to stop. |
Originally posted by 1stRX8 I agree that a brake upgrade is very necessary. Reducing the weight by 800+ lbs and using race pads might be enough. Believe me, If I have ANY reservations about braking - I won't hesitate for a second to upgrade to the Brembo's like my original plan indicates. If nothing else, the Brembo's look cool. I can't find any "REAL" brake upgrades other than upgraded rotors and Hawk pads. Seven's only Racing = way too expensive Race only setup. TII pistons and calipers = not a direct swap, and still nobody has posted an ACTUAL change. (I think Steve84GS has on the Mazspeed forum, but Not one pic.) AJC13B fit FD Brakes on his, = Totally custom. ($$$) If you want bigger, badder Brembos, I am afraid they are a custom job only. |
Yes, I was planning to do significant machining. I will use SolidWorks to model all the pieces and have them machined. I have not decided what material would be best. Probably a surface hardened off the shelf 304 SS.
