Well my transmission last year wasnt as loose as it was before, me and my grandpa squirted a little oil past the boot (under the shift boot) and it loosened it right up. Now refering to the video installing a short shifter they show the oil resivoir under there and im wanting to fill it up... Any ways ive got the shift boot off and stuff but underneath the metal piece holding down the next boot how do I take this out? It is bigger then the dash plastic, I dont really think its nessasary to remove the whole dash to do this... Thanks... If theres confused people from my shotty describition I can take pictures.

or do I even need to remove this piece? Is there a better way to fill this resivoir up without removing it? Or is it even the resivoir thats my problem? What it does is if I hold the shifter to the left or right it will just sit there instead of going back into the middle position...

its a spring that snaps the shifter back into the center position...if that spring is disconnected then you'll have to drop the tranny to reinstall it correctly, unless you have fingers like ET

but like I said when we put a little oil back there it was good for about 2 weeks... Then it started doing it again. If it was this string your talking about I would assume it would not work at all

There are three rubber boots. The final one you have to remove is the one with the round metal plate on it with three bolts. That hold the shift tower down in to the shift box. When you pull that one you will see the shift box which is supposed to be full of oil. Yours may be dry. Fill that up and replace the boots. While you are in there check the two nylon bushings and the two round springs. If they are bad they need to be replaced.

yes this is what I thought, the only problem I have is how does the metal bracket come off? I have it lose in its position but fail to see it possible without dash disassembaly...

The little open cavity at the end of the shift lever need not be full of oil. If the cavity was filled with oil the oil would leak down the three shift rods back into the transmission case.

I have taken the shift lever out several times. When you have the three screws out & the shift lever including the metal plate will not lift out you need to pull a little harder. The ball on the shift lever catches a loop on the centering spring that is the spring that centers the shift lever when all is together. Ya kind of need to develope a feel to get the deal out & also to get the deal back in. Like someone said earlier, if the shift lever centering spring is shot you'll need to remove the transmission to replace the spring through the four bolt side cover.
