Removing drum brake axle assy

Removing drum brake axle assy
I have the manuals you can download off foxed.ca - but there's no section on removing the axle assembly and the e-brake section is unhelpful.
Is it possible to pull the axle without opening the brake drums to disconnect the e-brake cables there? The brake drum screws look mangled from the factory or something (the place to put the bit is all smashed in) and I sort of want to avoid disassembling **** that's hard to disassemble when all I want to do is get drop this pegleg setup out and be done with it.
Besides that, it's the brake line, watts link connections, control arm connections, and shock, right?
Should I be using a spring compressor, or is it safe to just lower slowly? I don't want to lose half of my skull.
