as long as you leave the evaporator box under the dash the heat will work. Or you could try to find that piece from a non A/C car (rare) and install that.

I took all my A/C stuff out because I had a cracked compressor housing. It doesn't save very much weight, you will might end up bending orbreaking something to the point where you can never easily reinstall it (I did). Just something to consider; it might not be worth the tradeoff.

when the car only weighs 2300 lbs to begin with evne taking out 40 lbs is a big deal. I'm sure all of it weighs that much, the compressor is heavy as hell. But you do raise a good point about breaking it upon removal, all my lines were rusty and had to be cut. So it basically is a permanent mod unless you buy new stuff to put it back in.

there is no step by step, just look at teh A/c system and start removing it. Undo the lines, pull the compressor and its braket off, remove the condensor/dryer as a unit (gaining access to it by taking that metal plate off infront of/above the radiator and then you'll have to crawl around under hte dash to get the evaporator box out, remove the evap and put the box back in so the heat still works. Its not a hard "mod" to do, just tear everything out. Oh yea, there is also a relay on the driver side of the engine bay that can come out and the a/c idle compensator can come off the carb too. hope that helps.
