Kill No Cone: I don't know about "classic" registration, but emissions is limited to 25 years (contrary to your earlier statement). Not only that, but emissions is only every other year, so a 24 year old car can get by if the year falls right. And, emissions tests are good for 365 days, so if you transfer a title in an "off" year, you register 364 (or less) days later and are good on the next year. For example, I just bought an 83 with is normally tested in "odd" years, but because it requires emissions for registering this year, when I get tags next year (when it is normally due for an emissions test) I am good to go as long as I do so before the expiration of my recent test. This means my next test is in 2007 and that will be the final one ever, as my car will be 25 years old in 2008.

Obviously, my statements above only apply to Washington State. Every state has very specific laws. Oregon, for example is fixed at a 1974 emissions cut-off; not the 25 year rule many states have.

Blake, I have been doing a bit of research on this and what I have found in the Revised Code of Washington is that emssion controls need to be on cars back to 1968. Where did you get the info that emissions only go back 25 years, I would like to read that so I can find a way to register my car.

The odd year info is very helpful, and when it comes time I will use it

Also, there is no provision for a "classic vehicle" in the RCW, there is info on "collectors vehicles" here is a link to the RCW - http://www.leg.wa.gov/RCW/index.cfm?...action=section

I just looked up my policy and it is under classic. I do know it was real hard to find a Insurance company that would cover my car for full coverage. It took me a while. I am paying for a set price if the car is totalled. You are only allowed to have so many miles that you can drive your car. Its usually 5,000 a year. I asked for a little more and they didnt have a problem with it. I usually dont drive the car much anyway. They took pics of the car, and asked that I keep all my reciepts for work done to the car in case I have to prove the set amount I picked is accurate, unless I get it appraised. I have safeco. I pay $112.00 a month.

I didn't have any trouble insuring RX-7s as classic, although it may have helped that I was adding to an existing policy. Typically it should be closer to $120 - $180 per YEAR (not per month) for $10,000 - $20,000 full coverage. There are at least 5-10 different specialty insurance companies so shop around, check their references, and read the fine print. They all have some requirements and restrictions although neither Grundy nor Hagerty has limits on the number of miles driven. Here is an interesting insurance article from another car club.

Wow thats cheap for full coverage per year. You sure its full coverage? I have it insured in that range you listed. Ive never had a ticket in my life, not married, a girl, old, and I still pay high rates.

Kill No Cone,
If your looking to get full coverage on your car, and a set amount like I have in WA, why dont you try going through "save on" insurance company, and usually safeco is the insurer that will cover you.

ps: someone wanted to see pics of my car and pmed me but I forgot who it was and I accidently deleted the pm. If you could pm me back I will send you a link. sorry.
