red and maroon interiors, bleh

why is there so many first gen's with red or maroon interiors...i think it looks so bad. is it because they made so many, or did so many people pick it as an option? in my opinion, grey, or black is the only way to go...even brown. but not the ugly red!

haha...ian you ***...so why are you converting your interior, huh? cuz it sucks. haha

sorry for reposting, but hasn't pretty much EVERY topic been done before? in my opinion, everything is a repost.....

here are some reposts, that should be considered a real REPOST though

1. how do i remove my rats nest?

2. what are the benefits of premixing?

3. where can i find an aftermarket body kit for my 1st gen?

4. how many cylinders does my rx7 have? (lol)

posting about color of interior is a question that should be asked over and over again, since many diferent people, new or not should be able to voice their opinion.

I agree 100%. I only like the black and gray. Mine was brown and now it is all black.

Blame canada! Blame canada! South park rocks lol. If I wasnt going to do a color change (still maybe wont) I may have left the red in. Although, the interior was shot to hell anyways and I had the choice of gray or red. gry goes with everything so I said what the hell.

Interior colour in my opinion all depends on exterior colour...

For example I had an L6 exterior (Light Blue) it had a Grey interior looked great

I currently have an R7 exterior (Ornage) it has a brown interior and it looks great with that exterior colour.

IMHO any other interior colour choise with ether of those exterior coloours would look bad.

However the Red and Maroon do look kinda bad. They are not bad on a White car, but that makes the car kinda boring looking. White does not suit the RX7 well IMHO

Red also fades to pink which isnt that good either, no matter what color the exterior is. Mine is black with red (almost done swapping parts to gray only a few more large chunks to go), and when you have red interior you dont have many exterior paint options other than white or maybe gray.

I'm one of those freaks who actually LIKE the red/ burgundy interior-- as long as it doesn't clash with the exterior. My red-interior GSL is silver, but black, white, red and dark grey also work.

Blue or yellow exterior on the other hand with red interior would look like something Liberace would drive if he hadn't died of AIDS. Black, grey and tan also look good, but I draw the line at dark brown--- looks too much like the inmates smeared excrement all over the interior IMHO.

But the red does fade to very gaudy shades of pink, brown and green. I solved this problem on mine with an uphoulstry product called Vinylkote. Looks like new, won't flake off and doesn't have that "painted-on" look.

The company that supplies it is called Parasol Inc. and they're based in Toronto. Look up their website (enter Parasol Inc into your search engine) to order. You'll need to send them a sample of your uphoulstry color so they can mix you a 1-liter batch. Cost is about $120 U.S. and one liter will do your entire interior.

Maroon was a popular interior color in the 80's. My car had the maroon int and I hated it - I think mostly because the seats were all ripped. I've seen some nice cars with Maroon though. But IMO the grey int pretty much goes with all colors except beige or brown.

I loved the dark red in my charcoal 81 GSL - looked rich. However, hate it in a white or black. Black instead of the brown is mo better in the gold. Black or grey only in the blue, black, red or white (my white has black). I’m an artist, what can I say.

Snapshot, you're cheating with your color wheel again ? j/k I've never seen it summarized like that, but you're exactly right IMO. ( White with black here ( that used to be brown ))

1. pull your hard plastic and soft vinly parts out of the car.

2. clean said parts with acetone use it spareingly it will MELT the plastic if you use too much, or leave it on two long

3. lightly sand hard plastic parts with 600 wet dry sandpaper and water

4. get two part poly ureathane paint, get the addative for when you are shooting bumpers, add 25% more than you would for bumpers mix

5. shoot

you can do this in any color you want, if you don't get all of the armourall and grease off, it will **** up with major fisheyes (hence the acetone treatment) there are also commercial anti fisheye treatments you can use, but use the wipe on/off type, if you use the type that mixes with the paint, it will not adhere as well

the bumper additive keeps the paint pliable, like a thin coating of plastic so if you push on it, its less apt to crack like regular poly paint.

This will work, as the local custom shops around here often use it to freshen up a faded ratted out dash and hard panels, but you will have to redo it every 2~3 years or so.

Sounds like a good method and worth trying. There are a couple of concerns though: first, in my experience working on composite aircraft components, acetone began to attack plastics immediately rather than after a few minutes. I found laquer thinner or alcohol to be an effective and safer alternative. Second, what happens after three years? Does the paint flake off or merely fade? I'm asking because after almost two years the Vinylkote treatment I've applied to my interior still looks new, except for some minor wear-off on the shift **** and e-brake handle.

I changed my Datsun 240Z interior from red to black. Cleaned (scrubbed) surfaces w/ alcohol & sprayed w/ black vinyl black paint. Seems to have stuck well to the 1972 parts. If you ever put silicone Armor all on the surface you will have trouble.
