Question rebuilding carb - what to leave on?

i'm in the process of rebuilding my carb, and with all the emissions stuff on there, like the dashpots, and little vacumme things, is there anything that i should leave on, its off an 83, and i will be using mech secondaries. also when i remove that stuff, should i just JB weld the holes shut? Also i had a thought for spark plugs, What if i grinded 3 prongs off of the BR8EQ plugs, so it was a single prong, would that no yeild a hotter spark, or should i just convert a Ngk single prong to a side fire? Thanks alot, Matt

Nope, you can leave it all off. JB weld will work, but make for a near non-reversible job.

You can mill off 3 of the prongs, and yes it will unshroud the spark, yielding a bit more power, but the plug wont last as long. Thats the reason for the 4 prong plug.

Keep:
The decelleration dashpot,
The idle compensation valve and hoses,
And the PCV system functioning.

Well, the fact that you suggest boring the secondaries instead of the primaries tell me that you are.

You won't get good results by "throwing" in anything.
A carburetor is more a precise metering machine than most realize.

Try an NGK B8EV. Be advised that it won't last long, though.

The crappiness of Autolite spark plugs is eclipsed only by that of Champions.

Best cheapie plugs=Mighty

(Now watch someone say that Mightys are made by Autolite or Champion, such is my lot in life...)

Having an insulator disintegrate and fall into the combustion chamber of a Volvo causing internal engine damage tends to make one a bit gun shy, don't you think?

I had the same problem with Nippondenso/Denso plugs. Thats why Ill never use them again, no matter what. Well, the insulator didint fall in, but every ND plug Ive ever used had cracked insulators.
