Question Rear Wiper Install on GS

I'll be getting a rear hatch glass with a wiper setup soon. I was wondering if any special wiring had to be done in my 85 GS so that the wiper will function. I'm almost sure that this is a 'plug and play' type of operation, but I just want to make sure. Does anyone know how the colors of the wire match up, as I don't have the wiring that is in the molding that hooks up to the rear hatch strut (bigger of the two). Thank you.

I'll be posting pictures as soon as I have everything back on the car.

I believe that 1984 and 1985's came with the universal wiring harness that allows you to upgrade to power EVERYTHING...

Take the interior apart and you should find them coiled up somewhere on the right side. Not sure which wires go where though. I'll check my 1985 Factory manual when I get home (At school)...

You'll need the strut with the electrical contacts, or you'll need to be creative in designing a recoil mechanism so that the wires don't hang or get pinched when you close the hatch.

It's three wires. One is costant 12V, one is switched 12V and one is ground... Or is it one is constant 12V, one is ground, and one is switched ground... Gotta look at the schematic...

Oh yeah.. remember the switch at the dashboard... You'll need that...

Can I ask why you want the rear wiper? Just curious. I have a GSL-SE that I just replaced the hatch glass with one without the wiper. Just personal preference I guess, but I don't know what it buys you. I think it looks cleaner without it. Plus the defroster and a little RainX seems to work fine. I'm all for keeping it simple.

That's what I did. Someone interested in a free hatch glass w/wiper? I'm going to throw it in the trash if nobody claims it by the end of this week. It has some crappy tint on it but is solid and still has the wiper mechanism.

dibs on the mechanism, mine just stops wherever i turn it off at, so i want to tear mine apart and have one that i know works in there. it does work right....
i want to make the wiper stay in the up position when off, but ive been too busy to bother with a silly little wiper lately

I have 3 cars that all have rear wipers, and not one of them has a working one . I havent investigated the problem too much, as I RainX the windows so I can see out of them anyway. It would be kinda cool to have a working one, plus I always wanted to "modify" that rear washer nozzle for road rage use , or just to mess with people as they walk by my car .

Hey Smeagol, how much would shipping be to NJ 07853?

I agree with dgross00, the rx7 looks smoother without the wiper, it's much cleaner looking and a little rainx goes a long way
