The wiring runs up the hatch strut on the passenger side. There is a contact on the end of the body of the strut that meets a contact on the end of the strut (where it attaches to the glass) when the glass is lowered. This connection also feeds a wire to the rear window defogger.

Nah- the rear wiper arm is unique, although a front one might fit it is the incorrect length. ebay sells them fairly often or look in the sale section of the Forum. The passenger-side lift strut has the connecting hardware. This can be removed from the old strut (you may need to hack saw an end off to remove it). The Strong Arm aftermarket struts have a description with their instructions on how to install your old hardware on their struts. maybe other brands too? from there you'll need to run wiring to the front console and a switch. If you have an 81+FB there is a good chance all the wiring and connections are prewired, even if your RX didn't come with the rear wiper - otherwise it would be worth pulling the harness from a wreck. wiring diagram for your model yr would be handy ...
