how intense is it to replace them? my rear wheels are pretty loose and they could use replacement.

i got an estimate at my shop for $200 parts and labor but i'd like to avoid the labor costs.

 

Try a search man, we just wrote a post all about this 2 weeks ago. You can do it for $30 Canadian per side (if you get the cheaper autopart store bearings rather than the Mazda ones, which are twice as much). So about 2 cents US

 

Just have fun getting the old ones off and the new ones on. requires a press but some people rather do it the hard way without a press. Then you may need an axle puller depends on how stuck they are. i won't mention the e-brake. they are always fun.It took my mechanic with a press a couple of hours.

You definitely need an axle puller, but you can borrow them for free from an autoparts store.

I'd recommend reading our earlier post, it'll give you an idea of what's involved. I would say that it certainly isn't a 'difficult' job, but certain parts of it are a bitch if you don't have the right tools.

It's fun though - let's call it a character building experience Just be sure to have a cooler full of your favourite recreational beverage on hand.

 

If you can get rear bearings done for that, DO IT! Just finished mine on a B2200 pick-up (same rear end,...Sort of). I was three hours into it, (figure a professional shop, with press, air tools, and a pro mechanic standing by) when I finished.

$60 an hour, plus the $15 for each bearing, plus gasket, oil, and mental anguish,....it comes to be much more than $200.00

That along with my own misgivings of: if I have done this correctly,... I only wish I had taken up my mechanic on the $325.00 he was offering me!!!
