Rear Swaybar Ends HELP!!!
Hey guys,
my 7 is on jackstands right now (got the rear end sandblasted and repainted, and new bushings)
my question is, on the bracket where the Swaybar mounts to the chassis, is it a flat part with a hole, or is the dished part supposed to stay attached to it? Ive now wirebrushed them down, and I still cant say for sure that it is supposed to be one part, or if its just rusted together. Im putting energy suspension endlinks on...
So, is the Green circled one correct, or does the red circled part need to come off?

looking at the haynes manual, it looks like it is a retainer that comes off, but i want to be 100% before I force it off...
Thanks!!!

Depends whether or not he's stock up front, heard a lot of people say that stock bars lose the rear, but aftermarket front, keep the stock rear.
Also do you have any better pictures of those bits? I think I know what you're talking about but I am not sure.

The early SA had no rear sway bar, it was added because most people are more comfortable with understeer, if you can actually drive remove it and hang it on the wall.
To test it back to back, run it with the bar on and then run it with one end disconnected.

I think it stays too, but just wanted to make sure.
Yea, for now I'm stock bars F/R so I bet I will end up taking it off, but I want to make sure I have it right in case I do upgrade the bars, or in case It feels better with the bar. I'm putting down somewhere around 200hp at the rear wheels, so no telling how it will handle compared to a stock 12a car... or if the power will make a difference in my rear swaybar decision at all..
My 97 legacy GT feels great with an 18mm rear bar (stock 13mm)... the oversteer is great with AWD...

why have I seen understeer on other parts of this forum as well?!?
I can only assume (never modded a solid axle car) that a larger rear bar would increase oversteer, i.e. REDUCE understeer. that being said, I could see that no bar could possibly help if you have snap oversteer problems, but honestly, the "if you can actually drive" comment...
IDK whens the last time you got FTD or FTP with no sway bar? I honestly feel like (and again, this is only driving my car for 2 years, but with rubber bushings) that the rear bar WILL make the car faster in the corners, and the fact would be that if you cant control it with the bar, then maybe its the driver cannot figure out that in a 50/50 weight car (like my Miata, or 7's) will have oversteer tendency if you let go of or punch the gas...
That being said, I am still willing to try it w/o the bar at the next event... I mean, lots of ppl on here say take it off, so maybe you guys know something I dont know?!?

the understeer is caused by a lack of front traction. taking off the rear sway bar is like a small bandaid to a bigger problem. b4 i took off the bar i had the snap oversteer problem. after i took it off i was able to go hotter in to a turn. i am debating on buying a performance rear sway bar.. now that i have a full set of coilovers.
