rear swap - how to install e-brake

well, i just did a the swap. no problem. took 5 hours of fun. 3 18 year olds going at it until 2 am. everything went ok except the ebrake. i took the e brake cables that only link to the calipers. it seems to always be tight, and the other one isn't even linking up. do i need the cable that links from that cable to the hand brake?

If I remember correctly the handbrake cable is the same for all three S3 models (drum, GSL, SE), but the calliper cable is different.

I changed the calliper cables on my SE and the guy at the parts store only had 1 cable listed for the GSL and SE.

If you have slackened the cable at the parking brake handle then it sounds to me as if you need to reseat the calliper parking brake using the magic cube.

I just helped my brother (mcnannay) do a rear-end swap...but im not sure i quite understand your problem...there is a bolt that will give you slack at both of the rear calipers that is on the e-brake cable...that should help you hook them up/tighten it.

No, the hand brake to the split cables are the same. You probably need to loosen the adjustment on that center cable to get the caliper to center cable lining up right. Remove the plastic cover on the hand brake and you'll see the adjustment for it there. Back it off so you can get the caliper cables to attach.

it sounds like you have one that is just long enought to reach and the other way to short. i think that you have them on the wrong side, switch them. BTW the cable that links to those from the ebrake handle im pretty sure are all the same.

The left and right cables are the same. I put mine side by side to verify length and structure.

The ones I ordered were the same length as each other and to the ones I replaced (85 SE).

Funny thing is that the SE and GSL are also the same cables according to the parts catalogue at the parts place down the street from me.

Maybe someone can clarify this.

OOOO. i see. ill do this later tonite. thanks alot guys.

p.s. while i was trying to install them, the cables were a different length.

when i took it off te parts car, the ebrake cable wasn't even connected correctly. it was short for that car too and the person who had it last used some wire to connect the cable to the main link.

they ARE NOT the same length. There is different part numbers for gsl and gsl-se and left and right side in the victoria british catalog. Again try swapping them around. When they are on the wrong side, one goes on OK, but the other is impossible to get on

I had a time installing the retaining clip at the frame on the right side, is that the difference (other than the length)?
