Question rear end question

would a 85' gsl rear end just bolt right in to a 79'

Yes, if you swap the entire axle and housing assembly it will. You'd also need to swap the brake master cylinder, booster, brake bias controller, driveshaft and e-brake cables.

Note:

The thread pitch on the brake lines changed in '81 so you will have to get brake line that are conversion units.

MazdaTrix has DOT 79'/80 car to '81/85 brakes conversion brake line kits.

I just did this 2 weeks ago to my 79 and you dont have to change the brake master cylinder, booster, brake bias controller. Just use the original it works the same. All I had to buy besides the rear end, driveshaft and emergency brake cables was the conversion kit for the brake lines. Everything else works just fine.
