Rear Axle Shaft Removal

Angry Rear Axle Shaft Removal

was up people i had a little accident while driftin the other day and bent a small part on my passenger side axle shaft,if ne1 has an extra that woulb be great if not im tryin to fix the one i got but i cant figure out how to get the axle shaft out so i can try and pound the metal back, could use some help if ya got it or a good websiteso i can buy the repair manual. thanx

If you don't rent, most say that a few good whacks with a decent hammer/sledge should jar it loose.

yeh some people said that to me.
but a few good wacks did nothing except mushroom the tip end of the shaft.

For a repair manual. search for trochoid and copy/paste the link from his signature its for the factory service manual (FSM). HAYNES is a good resource if you can find one for the first gens.

Make sure to look through the FAQs there is a ton of info there, and if you havent already been welcomed to the forum..then...welcome to the forum

you have to take off the backing plate if you haven't already. Once you have the brake and disc removed (GSL) take of the backing plate bolts and give it a few whacks with a mini sledge or use a puller. If you have drum brakes it's going to be slightly different but basicly the same.(parking brake cable etc.)

It would help if you provided more details about your car, model, year, drum/disc, etc.,and used complete/correct wording in your sentences. If you plan on drifting as a regular habit, you'll need to learn how to do many repairs because you'll be tearing up a lot of parts.

Normally I say welcome to all new members, but atm I'll withhold that pending your further posts and sensibility. Might as well change the bearings wile your at it youll need a glance tube the bearings have to be poped out from inside the axle tube from the pumpkin area no sence in having it all ripped apart and not changeing those speacially if your "drifting" donuts dont count!

I just pulled my rear axle out today. I used a slide hammer to pop it out, the first one was a bitch and the second one fell out on its own. try that.

If you have removed everything that needs to be removed, bolt a junk wheel onto the axle flange and beat on that. Make sure the differential is safely supported with jackstands.

good advice tro the diff is pretty heavy, I found that out today haha. It was about twice as heavy as I thought it could be

daang guys, its only a piece of axle. you guys are creating too much problem. here's a simple yet effective solution to that.

the non-GSL has 4 bolts that secure the axle while GSL has 3 IIRC. Reinstall either the drum or rotor backwards and install the lug nuts but dont tighten it all the way. you want slacks on it so you can use the rotor or hub as a slide hammer. just a few wacks and the axle should come loose.

If it's bent from drifting like you say you might need to to loosen the nuts holding the diff so it can move, you might be binding up and it won't come out easy if it's binding at the diff.
Also, you might have bent the housing at the flange instead of the axle, those puppies are pretty thick and don't bend to easy.

Just my 2 cents.......
