They will all work, but the best would be an 81-83 axle, because you wouldn't need to swap drive shafts. Check out www.mazpeed.com/axel.html for details.

As long as you keep the swap complete, what i mean is.
If you use an 83 rearend, use the axles that came with that housing. and you know that the SE's mounting points are 20 MM lower. 84-85 GS,GSL, 12a's axles will not fit an earlier rearend housing. you can use 84-85 12a rearend. those axles are more beefier. I learned all this from putting together a rearend at the junkyard, pieces from all different years. and searching for the best condition parts.
