RallyX/AutoX RX7?
RallyX/AutoX RX7?
brain storming on a good compromise of AutoX, track, and a RallyX suspension setup. I am not looking for trophies, just driving and having fun with some suspension tweeks. Looking at the rule books and classifications
-Street Touring class for low HP and suspension modifications
-Prepared class for RallyX which again suspension limited engine modifications
-Just track day, no class specification
-Ice? throw on snow tires and drive on a lake coarse with some snow tires
The help I need
, addressing the stock suspension. Springs are SOFT. It works pretty good for RallyX because of all the bumps but there is a lot of body roll. Not really good for autoX or at Dakota county track especially with the grippy tires
So shooting out ideas,
Keep the right height
Better shocks- looking for recommendations. I have access to a welder so I could make a cheap set of coil overs
Stronger sway bars-with disconnect links for rally X? I have heard some getting rid of the rear all together but didn't know if that was to address the snap oversteer problem I don't think the sway bars would be really needed for Rally X
Polyurethane?
And this is the bigger question is what spring would be a good compromise between the two? Was looking at RB springs, I have heard they are firmer than stock but have also heard that they are not firm enough? they do lower the car but I could figure out a way to add the 1" so that it would have a little more ground clearance for Rally X.
OR some sort of progressive spring,
OR Coil over springs with weld on perches
What do you think? feasible without changing the springs or are there just too many variables to switch back and fourth?
Thanks!
Andrew

My coach for the SCCA Autocross driving school said my FB was the most balanced car she had driven all day. She normally competes with a Miata and is competitive nationally. I was running Tokico HP (blue) shocks, RB springs, RB front sway bar, stock rear sway bar. I've been doing track days with it as well. It's not really competitive for autox or track time attack but it's balanced and predictable. I think it's too stiff for rallyx though, or you'd at least want to disconnect the sway bars. Koni adjustibles are in my future and would be good for you when switching between events.
