Having the extra cap is good insurance as you never know when you will need it! We don't want the coolant to boil that's for sure.

Silicone coolant gaskets are no bueno , they ALL passthrough coolant . Rubber is a better seal even if it last less .

Is that something particular to gaskets? Silicone radiator hoses have been around for a while.

The hoses pass liquid through them , they sweat it out at a small but measurable rate . Google it and there are websites and videos that explain it better. Race cars use them because they change fluids frequently and glycol isn't even allowed .
