Questions! e-fan, exhaust, electrical

Hi all. Just need a few tips on some of the things I'm working on.

I found an electric fan already mounted to an Rx7 radiator locally. What thermostatic relay do I need for it? Is there anything else I need to know before installing?

The exhaust on my rx7 was very poorly done. I need to cut the flange out of the header and it would make this easier if I just cut the cat out too. Is there a con to running catless besides the smell on an RX7? Also, I'd probably leave the air pump on to push air through the exhaust so I don't pass out at a stoplight. Where I live emissions and noise aren't a problem

Lastly, why on earth would my car have to jump the headlight circuit to start? I have to jump 2 wires that go to that black box under the hood. I believe the box controls the headlights and motors. My car will also not shut off if the lights are on regardless of if the wires are still jumped.

I like to use the painless fan wiring kit from Summit Racing. Yeah, it's a little expensive but it has NEVER failed me and works flawlessly. It's a little bit harder to install too, but it is absolutely worth every penny. A lot of the guys here use the $20-30 adjustable kits from Autozone/Advance that have the metal probe you stick in between the radiator fins. I've tried those before and couldn't ever get them to operate correctly. They frustrated the heck out of me.

Ditch the air pump. Your car is going to stink a little bit regardless of whether or not it is on there. If you are getting rid of the cats then it really makes no sense to keep it. It's just one more thing to complicate the engine bay and weigh your car down. I always get rid of them.

Is that what my fan on/off temps should be? 185 on 175 off? I believe this guy has what I need I just gotta know it's for the right temps. I'm pretty good at wiring so I may just make my own. I'm completely undecided. $60 for what looks like $20 worth of parts is hard to justify lol.

It depends on what temperature of thermostat you are using. The stock thermostat is 180 F and I believe the stock clutch fan comes on at about 203 F. I like to keep my setup as close to stock as possible, which means you want to be using a 180 F thermostat and this 200F on, 185 F off fan kit:

This combination is good because it keeps the fan from short cycling. Most of the cheaper thermostats will cause the can to constantly turn on and off, at least that has been my experience with them. No amount of adjusting I did could cause this to stop. A wetted thermostat like the one in the painless kit is going to be more accurate and less prone to temperature fluctuations. It really is worth paying the extra bucks for.

Whatever you do, don't just hook your fan up to an on/off switch. Too many people do that, and it's a terrible idea. Eventually you're going to forget to turn it on and cook your engine.

The car isn't for me. It's for my mechanically declined brother. Everything had to be idiot proof. The last thing I'd do is give him a switch that means the difference of life and death of his 12a.
