Question from a newb...

...yeah, I'm about to go put a deposit on a perfect condition '85 GSL and I wanted to know what paint would be best if I wanted it purple with orange polka dots. Well, actually not really. But when I was test driving it I noticed a whining noise when I accelerated that stopped before second gear. Is that normal for a rotary engine or indication of some kind of problem? I called both my mechanic and my old man and checked a few sites and I still have no clue so any help would be appreciated.

you didnt mention mileage or if it was an auto or not?

Maybe check the rear end fluid as well as the tranny oil.

Oh, right. It's an automatic with 110k miles. The previous owner was fanatical about keeping it in good condition so that's why I thought it might be normal.

A slight whine in a 3 speed automatic is not uncommon. I would still change out the fluid and make sure its not burnt at all.....

Good luck with it

Yeah, I'm going to have to find a mechanic that can work on a rotary so I can have it checked out and get a tune up after I buy it. The previous owner had a folder full of records dating back to the 80's so I'll probably pull a name out of there. I doubt it will need anything but you can never be too safe. Only problem I can find is the steering wheel is kinda pitted and the wiper arms are a little rusted. Well, and the paint is kinda faded but I was going to have it painted anyway. But would the steering wheel and wiper arms be hard to switch out by myself?
