Question about the Shocks on 85 GSL-SE

First let me focus your attention to the Front Shocks. My tires without a spacer are rubbing that spring and with a spacer it's BARELY Clearing that spring.

Question #1. Does it matter if you clear that spring by a 1/8th of an Inch or a Mile Clearing is Clearing?

Question #2. Is there an alternative to this where I can get rid of the spacer.

Please don't answer #2 with Get a different Rim. I know that much. The Rims I have are 16x7 with 40mm offset I believe and the Tires I'm running are 205/55/R16.

Thanks a Bunch

the tire profile is too big. you should run a 215/45 or 50/16 combination

that should be able to solve your problem

So am I trying to change the 205 to a 215? or am I trying to change the 55 to a 50 or 45? Which one is causing me to hit the spring?

I'm running 215/45/16 with a offset of 38mm but I had to use a 1/4in spacer with ARP long wheel studs.

A 215 will give me 8.46" of Tread width

and a 205 is 8.07 of Tread Width so I'm not to sure about your solution of the Tire profile being to big. The Tire Profile may be to big but going from a 205 to a 215 seems to only worsen the situation.

I've just mounted a set of 205/45/16 on a set of rims with 42mm backspacing and that barely clears the spring, though it hits my sway bar on sharp turns. I believe a 205/50/16 is the biggest a 7 will take up front before needing spacers, this is just my assesment.

I suggest using 205(or 215)-40-16. I had them on my 16x7.5" 38mm wheels without any rubbing or clearance issues.
