question about the MSD 6 BTM.....

Hey guys, my friend has a 1st gen with a 12A turbo'd (old school setup) with a street port and a T3/T4 turbo i believe. Well, my question is, when he gets close to about 10psi, the motor starts to stutter like the timing needs to be retarded some more, the hes got the timing as retarded as it will go. What he wanted me to ask was, someone suggested that he get the MSD 6 BTM... the ignition box with the boost retard setup with the ****. Do you guys think that this should help him out a bit? All opinions welcome.

Thanks,
Miles

OH... by the way, he no longer has the original 79 distributor, i think he upgraded to an 85 ignition? the electronic one i guess. just so you guys know

He shouldn't mess with it. If he wants a fool proof setup,

then he needs to lock the timing completely, and set it once. Reseach the "lock the Distributor" threads made recently.

i think his distributor is locked, and someone set it for him, but it still stutters at high boost.

Well, if it's properly locked and set, the problem is elsewhere. Does he have good coils and the rest of the ignition system?

How is he for fuel, what do the gauges say?

Are you sure his car is not leaning out? That's what it sounds like.

yeah, im guess if the timing is locked then its a fuel starvation issue.

hes got a Holley Blue inline fuel pump with the adjustable fpr that it comes with. the car seems to be getting enough fuel, its just that i asked this question because this guy that owns a shop that works on mainly rotarys said that its probably just his timing and that he should buy the BTM and it would fix the stuttering problem. . . .again, just going by what he told me what his car is doing
