Question about filling 5 speed

I recently replaced my clutch and I ended up draining my transmission when I removed it. But after I reinstalled the trans I noticed the fill plug is blocked by the body (its in a Triumph TR7). Can I fill It from the shifter hole? Also does it need any additives? I just bought regular 80w 90. How much does it hold total? The transmission is an 81 5 speed stick.

The shifter hole is basically it's own separate reservoir and does not go to the main body of the trans,so you would essentially turn to dust before your trans gets filled!

Also the fill plug is the big plug behind the starter right?

The sqaure plug. use a 14mm box wrench on it. The only thing to do is run a hose down into the fill hole and gravity funnel feed the oil and come back about a week later. Maybe the fluid will have made its way through the hose by then.

According to the 1985 factory service manual, the manual trans hold 2.1 quarts.

I picked up a pump for outboard motors I am going to try and give it a shot tomorrow. I think I saw it on MAZDAtrix when you install their short shifter they say to pour some oil down the shifter hole. After I fill my trans correctly from the fill plug, how much should I pour down the shifter hole?
By the way the car is not a turbo, so it only has one fill plug.

One of the few times the older trans has an advantage... SA trans can be filled from the shifter hole since it's not "remoted."

But the side hole is really the only way to measure proper fill.
