I just tried to crank the rex, and it was a no-go. I checked the plugs and they were badly fouled with oil, so i cleaned them up. i left one plug out to check for spark, there was no spark. I took the distributer cap off and had soemone observe while i turned the car over. It seems like only the leading points contact breakger is opening and not the trailing contact breaker, is this normal? Should i replace the points totally or what?

 

Check the points for the Trailing and clean them. Hit them with some sandpaper and reset the gap.

i am in hickory, basically from there you are, u come up i85, then hit highway 321 just south of charlotte then its about 45 mins.

I will remove the distributer and take them to a friend. He can maybe work it out for me, asi said, i know NOTHING of electronics.

 

The 79 does not have electronics unless it has been converted, It has breaker style points. You need to find a mechanic who is 50+ to clean and set them for you.
