Question about carb?

Hi everyone. I have a question about rebuilding a carb off a 78. I have an 84 gs that will need a carb rebuild. Now, I have found a spare carb off a 78 rx and was wondering that if I can rebuild that carb and install it in the 84. Is there a big difference between the two.
Thanks. Mark

If you have removed the rats nest, cats and air pump, there is a good chance it will work. There are some differences due to the thermal reactor as opposed to the catalytic system on the FBs. Change the intake mani too, the SAs supposed to flow better.

There are 3 variations fo the 1st gen carbs that I know of. If Carl or Sterling would drop in, they could say for sure, and tell you what problems you may encounter.

ya i belive that thier is the pre 80, 80, and post 80 but dont qute me on that , if you want to get technical thier are at least 6 major diffrences in them pre 80, 80, post 80 cal version and non from the most part i think that trochoid is right that as long as all emmisions go by by, you should be fine you will need to read up on the distrubter from what i can tell the major changes where because of the distributer and the emmisions so without the emmisions i presume your only problem would occur with the dist lines but they should be fine

Yes, you can use it. As others have said, there are some minor differences, but it would be useable on any first gen 12A.

Do a search and you should find references to a copy of the carb manual online. That will show you the differences.
