Purpose of Removing Rats Nest

I have been looking into removing the rats nest on my 79 SA22 with a racing header. Air pump, ACV, and most of the things resided on that side of the engine bay had been removed and I don't think my car came with shutter valve... I read the entire rats nest tutorial and have been searching for more info about it. But my question is,

what is the purpose to remove rats nest? It is probably to make things simpler under the hood, and what else?

What is the theory behind it? From my understand of the tutorial, are we just eliminating the solenoids and hooking up the needed vaccum lines to the appropriate ports?

There has only two solenoids; relief, and AC on my car. And the vacuum lines looks different than the tutorial. Should I connect my vacuum lines as shown in the tutorial or it will be different on my SA?

For those who has removed the rats nest on a SA22(mainly the solenoid stuff), can you tell me how you hooked up the vacuum lines?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks alot.

I now have a 79 engine in my 85, and have the crankcase venting system hooked up. I used an 85 carb and 85 carb spacer, so everything except for the solenoids was a direct match to the tutorial. I'll investigate to see if I can spot more differences though.

How many solenoids do your car have? I only have three. And the tutorial's has 7.

to answer the main question- The purpose behind it is to make things simpler under the hood. The fewer things there are to break on something, the better it is in my opinion.

Do you have any crankcase ventilation? Just using a breather on the oil filler neck will not do the job. You need vacuum, but with some restriction. You can add a PCV, peejay prefers one from a Caravan, I think. I have the links to where he talks about doing it if you can't find them. I've posted them here and at mazspeed.

we hooked Greg's up just like the tutorial showed with the line going from the top left of the carby over to the oil filler. (top left from the driver's side)

it should go through the purge valve. but I don't know that there's a purge valve on the 79s. is there? if not, you'll want to look at whether to use a PCV valve. there was another thread on this here recently.
