Pulley disassembly question

So I just pulled the main pully assembly off of my sa engine and removed the 4 bolts holding the pulleys together. However there is this 5th rivet looking thing and they are still held together. Do I just drill it out? If so what should I replace it with?

Could you elaborate on that? Do they not come apart any further I was under the impression they did.

Some pulleys like yours is rivited to the hub. No need to mess with it unless you want to add timing marks. just clean it specialy the back of the hub (facing the motor)

You didn't tell us why you're removing the pulley. Is there any good reason to take it off? Usually, no. Most people can't get them back on right and come on the forum asking for help. You're lucky with that aluminum rivit, makes it idiot proof. lol

So tell us why do you need to remove the pulley, anyway?

Its very rusty and lots of flaky paint. I wanted to separate them from the hub to sandblast and repaint to reduce belt slip.

Ok, then take a chissel and tap it off. The rivit is soft aluminum. Then clean off the little remaining rivit piece that's left over in the hub after the pulley is taken off. It will be slightly bent and can cause a timing change (the pulley marks will move slightly and won't be lined up perfectly anymore) and/or the bolts won't go back in very easily. Just remember where the rivit was and line up the hole in the pulley. It's still idiot proof, unlike the later ones up to '85. In '86 they moved one of the bolt holes 5mm to regain the idiot proofing.
