Proud New Owner

Hi everyone,

I'm now a proud new owner of a 1984 GS model. It needs some work but hopefully will be a fun slalom car for me in the near future.

I have a small oil leakage problem that I am going to try to correct this weekend but wondered if anyone had any knowledge about commonly leaky areas under the hood. Could you fill me in if you have any ideas?

Thanks!

Be happy to get some pics up but it's awfully dark outside at the moment. I'll post some before the weekend

Thanks for your info...

The oil pan bolts need to be snugged up every now and then.

Oil cooler leak is from the 4 (I think its 4) little rubber o-rings. They get old and brittel and start letting oil get past them. Relatively easy fix. Just takes a bit of time, and some blood from your hand.

Another good spot is at the Oil Metering Pump (OMP). This is on the front, lower, passenger side of the engine.... Man, I really need to fix that!

Well I must say first congrats on one of the smartest car buying choices of your lifetime. This car will definately change your outlook on cars. Our little beast that we all have in common is the rotary. Granted this engine has its drawbacks but there are enough ultra-smart ppl on this forum to offer guidance should something go bad for you. So please keep up the faith and you will see the light with a little help from the gurus *cough rx-7carl *cough...........Ok as for the oil leak there are several locations that are common to your model year. As posted before check the above areas mentioned, and of course I sometimes have problems with this on my cars.....check the little pipe that routes the oil around the engine to the cooler. In high salt areas this pipe tends to "Core" out. You dint mention where you were from but in some areas that are wintery type conditions use4 salt to help with the roads and it is killer on anything made of metal. good look and please post some pics.....and once again welcome to the community!

I've seen this on my old '83, though I only noticed it after I found I blew an Apex seal. Thought it might've contributed to the apex seal going south.
Is it damaging to the engine to have an oil leak between the housings? What I saw before was oil dripping out from there when the car was running .
