Talking Project white rice! My $80 '79 SA!!!!

Ok, so Ive had my fair shair of deals, having purchased FBs for 500, and 600 dollars before but yesterday there was something special in the air.
I go to work expecting another regular day at the prosthetic and orthotic shop I work at, but it was far from it. After lunch a guy came in to pick something up, and for some reason he asked if it was my RX-7 outside. I replied yes and we got talking, little did I know he was trying to unload his SA. He says he needs this car off the trailer and gives me his address. I went and looked at it after work and I knew I had to buy it...It needed saving.
Anyways along comes today and I go to pick it up. He says he only wants 80!!! yes 80 dollars for it because it doesnt run, and has a bit of a monstrous front bumper and spoiler, along with the bondo you would expect from such amazing work.
I gladly agree, and as I am about to call a tow truck he says he will drive it over to my house for 20 bones.
I obviously agree because a tow truck would have cost me way more, no question.

So, 100 bucks later this is in my backyard!!!
Needs some serious love, but I needed another project, so it should work out good. I couldnt let an SA go down the drain like this.
The spoiler and front and as much bondo as possible is going, no question.
You just cant beat 80 bucks for a nearly complete 1979 RX-7 though, It just needed someone to fix the monstrosity that it has become!
Here they are, more to come in the future months to come!

The crew!

And the most shamefull part, the monstrosity on the front...

WHYYYY!!!!!!! haha

Its worth that just for the rear end and tranny, props to you for saving it, even if its for parts it keeps other SAs on the road

I'll give you $100 for the wing, look you've already made profit off of it.

Nah! I would take off that wing and the fenders since they were bondo'd to the bumper. Just bring it back to its former glory.

Yah, the smoothed out indent on the sides is questionable, Ive been wondering if there is any way I could expect to get the bondo (I assume its not metal) to come out of the indents....

Not quite sure what to do there though...

As for the engine, It turns over by hand freely and apparently ran before it was parked, so who knows whats gonna happen there.
Just need to get a battery / some miscelanious bits to see if itll fire up!

There was no gas cap on the tank tho, so I assume thats gonna need some work.. Ill bet its full of water / rust and the pumps probably worthless.

The first order of business is to see if I can get this badboy titled. It was sold to me with no transfer of ownership document, so Im not sure what will happen when I look into it. I hope I can retrieve the title. If not itll be a parts car.

More to come once shes cleaned up and a title has been looked into.

I will definately consider selling the spoiler...its for sure not my style....

Yeah definitely a no on the front and wing. With the body line filled in, it looks like it would look really good with a good set of wheels and a nice paint job. Defnitely a score for $100 total

To the moon, surely.

Usually I'd hate a wing that that, but on such an old classy car it looks kind of neat. xD

UPDATE: SHE RUNS!!!!!!!!!

I couldnt get fuel out of the stock system, so I rigged up a jerry can and an old fuel pump today to see if it would run.
It fired up almost first try, and ran awesome so Im super excited. Definately was somewhat un-expected.

Seems like after a carb rebuild, gas tank cleanout, and installation of a fuel pump she would almost be good to go.
Just waitin on the title before I go after choppin off the front end, and spoiler.

There has been lots of interest from people wanting to purchase the spoiler, I got sevral PMs, Ill let you guys know when it comes time to rid the car of it.

Yes thankfully no one has inquired about the front. It is brutal. Everytime I see it I cringe. Why would someone do this?????

I took a better picture of the front....
ugh.

Still needs more cleaning, but heres some shots of the inside. Its actually not too bad, the door panels are absolutely mint!!!!

Still not bad at all for $80. Interior is pretty good shape, and hopefully when you remove the half ton of body filler and that park bench off the rear, it will be even better.

I paid alot for mine and it came with a faded interior, and leaky exhaust. That is one hell of a buy, and since she runs, all that much better.
