project wall hit, someone give me a boost?

Well my 85 has been waiting on body work over the spring and summer. To top it off The interior has to be redone completely. I have searched around and have found that getting the parts that fit, like the rubbers and stuff.. it get crazy expensive.

My car needs new switches and everything else. Hopefully I will be able to start getting everything organized and everything into work.

I have a 1982 GSL with about 77,000 original miles. I started the car today and noticed the carb started leaking. wtf.. another rebuild? its only been sitting a few months. I am going to take it out and tighten the screws up and see if that takes care of that.

My main issue is going to be refurbishing the interior, should I just buy another car? Can anyone who has brought there car to a shop to have there interior redone tell me the amount they have spent? I need some figures to work with so that I can present them to my wife, for the overall approval.

Have you thought about putting on black dragons seat upholstery kit. Then you can put a carpet kit in. On the door panels if you need them either have an upholstery shop do them or see if someone has some good used ones.

Question, are you trying to restore it to as factory or resto' mod?

For the rubbers, there's not any other way around it... seems like you're not in a rush so when you have some spare cash just buy the pieces one at a time.

I've been quoted ~$300 just to do my seats and this was in NC where labor is cheap. After that I figured it's not *that* important and I'll just use that $300 toward new aftermarket seats. Carpet is pretty cheap and can make the biggest difference. All of the other bits you should do yourself, just take your time to take everything apart and use the old fabric as a pattern for the new fabric and just take your time and it will turn out good. Biggest b*t*h is the headliner... there easy to get wrong and the board itself likes to crack and teare due to age.

Buying another car will get you the same problem, old parts... very rare that anyone has taken great care of their Rx7 over the years. Too, depend on how much you want to make the car "yours" If you just want a nice clean stocker, wait it out and find one that's been garaged.

What interior color is the 85? I have a nearly complete red one in the basement. The question comes down to how nice do you want the interior. If you want a full restoration and have it look brand new, with new fabric, vinyl and carpet, 1500+ is not out of line. I have 1200 so far in the Z and I'm doing all the work myself except for recovering the seats. Those were 450, labor only.

I hate typing things fast. I really wanted to state thats its a 82. I tore out the old carpet and the rug thats under the dash has to come out. All the rugs other that one have been removed. The seats that I have now do not have any holes and the dash has no cracks, but the glove box is in schambles. I need to replace the center console area.. the part that wraps around the shifter, the whole thing. And that freaking headliner, VERy hard to find. I was thinking of just getting some screws and some screw caps. And then just do some outside work whenever the screw punches through, but I don't know how good thats going to look at the end.

It sucks that all the guys that work on their cars are so far away, I am going to have to move outwest.
