Project 82.....starting?

Ok here is the story.......

Its an 82 with an 83 engine, has not run for 5 years.
When I purchased the engine the yard pullled the dizzy and when I went to installl it there were no paint marks left to go by so I aligned it with the first (of 2)grooves going clockwise on the pulley. I hope that that is the proper way to installl it.
I also fried the idiot lights in the dash that lite up when you first turn on the key. Just the brake and engine light come on now(NO bigggey there I hope)
Starter is junk.....so I pullled it with my Jeep to bump start it.......NO luck.
I pullled the plugs and they were wet and very black.
Last year I tried the tranny fluid trick(dont think I should have) and now my cylinders are full of that crap.
Today alot of smoke came out the exhaust BUT no start!

Trying my best to get it up and runnning.
I am going to try and pick up a starter and go from there.
Any ideas on ways to get her fired up.
What should and shouldn't I do after it has sat this long

I'm not sure about the dizzy situation, but if your plugs are wet and black, chances are you engine is flooded/keeps flooding itself. If you did the ATF trick properly, then you will get a bunch of gunk in your engine (this might also be why your plugs are all nasty). Rotary engines have no cylinders--they have rotors. I don't really understand, but how can a lot of smoke come out of your exhaust with the engine dead?

I pulled the rx behind my jeep and let the clutch out while in gear and moving. Its a way to start a manuel transmission vechile. It turns the engine over and therefore might start it. You also have to have your ignition turn to on aswell.
And yeah I know rotaries dont have cylinders but rotors....my mistake there in typing.
I was thinking that the wet plugs might be due to the leftover atf.

Yep, I've started my 7s many times like that, because I was too cheap to buy a battery for my 7 (it has a battery now since it's being driven). I would pull the plugs and let the inside dry out. I'd also get a starter from a local junkyard and put it on to see if the motor even has compression (crank the engine and listen for the sounds from the plug holes).

Lots of compression happening.
Just have to get the starter and make sure that I have some spark too.
Its going to be some work getting it going but I so miss driving it. It was always a great car to drive......just a b@#ch to repair it all the time.
