Exclamation Problems with Gas Tank Leak - HELP!!

I had my '85 RX7 inspected when I bought it last week. It seems I have a damp spot on my gas tank, meaning a small leak. I am unsure what is the best way to get this repaired. Are there fuel cells in the gas tanks? If so, then if I tried to patch it, I could be creating pressure (=dangerous).

Idon't know if getting one from a boneyard will be the cheapest way to go, or how much would it cost to have it repaired.

Any Ideas?

Thank you all, I am using this car as my driver, and I really don't want it to explode, or fill my garage with gas fumes.

Thanks,

Joe in KC

sent you a pm. the yard tank will likely be worse then yours. the putty i told you about is made to withstand any tank pressure. just make sure you follow the instructions. you can get it at autozone, etc. not sure what you mean be fuel cells but it does have a baffle.

Didja mean JB Weld? Is it safe to use that on a tank for an 85?

Check this site, it has instruction on the bottom.

I will be sealing my tank this upcoming weekend as well, although only as a precaution.

Seems to be quite a few tanks leaking lately. Drop tank and drain. Clean area on outside and cover with fiberglass. Pick up some split tank sealant at cycle shop. Follow instructions. Put it in tank, and turn tank. When hardened it won't leak. Takes some time, but worth the effort. Spray undercoating on tank after installed.
This sealant is used in cycle split gas tanks to insure no leaks. Give a cycle shop a call. I've used it a couple of times with great success.

no no, not jb weld. there is a putty SPEIFICALLY for sealing gas tanks etc. just go to the local autozone and ask. do not go with the por treatment unless you have money to burn or just like doing things yourself. a competent radiator shop should be able to boil, clean, and reseal your tank for the same price or just slightly more. they will also be able to patch up any extra prolblems as well.
