CA PRICE CHECK: '84 GS/Base...

Hi guys,

So I am an FD guy (first post in this forum) looking for a new Daily, may as well make the whole fleet rotary!

so, I have found an '84 GS/Base. I thought(hoped) it was a GSL, but it is not...so that changes things as I was totally about to jump on it...

Here's the details:

'84 GS/base (12A, no LSD, drum brakes in rear, no electronics. lightest model though)
nice paint--BLACK the color I want, and the only black FB I've found for sale.
interior gutted, but has all parts included with sale
smogged and registered,
has megan straight thru exhaust, aluminum radiator,
wheels, tint, lowering springs in the FRONT only (??Perhaps he was considering a rear-end swap?).

true Mileage is UNKNOWN.
assuming compression test is fine, what would you guys pay??

My goals:
Daily reliability.
Good suspension/handling
(would require a rear-end swap, brake upgrade, and the rest)
ultimately ~150rwhp,
Ultimate-ultimately, swap in a 13B...

Should I just wait for a GSL-SE??

Attached are two pictures from drivers/pass side. Looks straight, gold wheels are on it now.

Thanks any input greatly appreciated!!

I would pay no more then 1k for that car if it was me you can get a real clean one for around 3. I paid 3k even for my 79 rx7 basic no extras but only has 50k miles very clean no work needed plus i got a another 81 parts car with it to. It is up to you i have a 83 gsl that is trash but the extra power windows and everything means alot more stuff that breaks and alot more expensive to fix. If i was you i would hold out for a cleaner gsl or even better gsl-se good luck.

That doesn't look like a daily so much as a project, especially with the interior gutted... What color is the interior? Black on maroon is probably my least favorite color combo for the FB, but your preferences may vary.

I wouldn't pay much. $2K maybe if it runs well and there's no rust (you're in SoCal, so there shouldn't be any).

AFAIK, 150rwhp is achievable from a streetported 12A with a quality exhaust and carb.

How long have you been looking? Take your time and find the right one (this may be it; who knows). It's not like these cars are terribly rare.

where I'm at in first gens that are usually running really well are fairly rare sometimes. you can find running ones on CL but they don't always look that great.

when I bought my very first mazda rx-7 it was a 2nd gen s4 and it was a pain in my *** trying to even out my air-fuel ratio and then it came to the point where I found out the guy who rebuilt the engine before I bought it only hand tightened some bolts for the oil pressure plate and it almost fell off and he reused water gasket for the pump and old seals on the engine.

I guess what im saying is don't rush for an old car like me and regret buying it or you just end up getting burned. these first gens are built to last but you gotta just find the one that seems to click with you.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.
I have not been looking very long, this one just seemed like a steal though not as much of a steal as I had imagined (he's asking 2500).

This might sound kinda stalkers around for California or whatever but I like to drive to my local county's. And look up and down the streets at driveways I find broke down rx7s of both 2nd and first gens though it seems most are being scrapped or are already parted out it just gives me a number on how many there are located near my area and somewhat further areas. I do find some restored 1st gens but they are hardly driven and almost never for sale. But good luck my friend.
