presurizing tank?? Breather/vent?

Howdy folks - -
Figured out my car was flooding because my tank wasn't venting. It's supposed to vent, right? I took the cap off (along with a whoosh) and I'm not flooding anymore. Is there a breather somewhere in the system I can start looking for to find blockage?

Thanks for your help!

I beleive it's supposed to whoosh when you take the cap off...the whoosh is air rushing in, so if it's doing that I would assume it's venting. Anyone else?

Definatly had positive pressure, with the cap on you can't blow into the return line, and if you manage to then it blows gas back out the return line till it equalizes.
If I remove the return line or the fuel cap it stops the flooding.
I know the cap isn't supposed to be vented, but isn't there a breather line somewhere else? They usually go to the charcoal canister, I believe.

There is a check valve in there somewhere. Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know. The tank is kept in a purged condition by the system so the tank doesn't blow up when the sending unit inside the tank arcs, which is normal. Sorry I am not much help this morning. -WG

The vent line is located on the firewall right next to the fuel lines and brake line. You can't miss it. It usually plumbs into either the charcoal canister or tees into the oil breather hose before the pcv valve. There's also a check valve in the line right at the back of the car just after the fuel tank. Maybe the charcoal canister or check valve are blocked?

On mine I just left the line open to atmosphere since I have an aftermarket carb setup and it works fine.
