Presilencer Question
I'll ask the dumb question at my expense - so if anyone ever does a search...
I have an '83 single pipe presilencer. Though it's not marked with such, is there a flow direction?
Thanks!

Airflow is my life
I wouldnt think there is. Its a straight thru deal so shouldnt matter.
Jim. bet its just resonating to the exhaust pulse. But with my duals (long primary SP) Ive never noticed any sound like that. Dunno. Maybe its vibreating against a heat sheild? A loose bolt?

when you actually get under the car you'll see where the hanger goes...it should only go one way, i think the hanger might go towards the rear, being that thats where it might need more support...
BigJim - Yeah, do you hear the noise more in the morning when its cold or when your first starting up the car???
I get that rattling sound too.....
I've heard a couple guys complain about that even RENE FRANCO and I don't think he'd have a leak in his exhaust sys....

The RB part # is 16400 - had no hanger and the studs looked identical on both sides. Didn't notice a difference on the interior of the presilencer...
So I just bolted the damn thing up.
Runs great!

Well crap - spoke to RB, they said the presilencer isn't direction per se, but you can run into a little restriction if you don't install it properly. They said there's about an inch, inch 1/2 turned inlet that should go forward, toward the header. The wrong end starts immediately with insulation. I didn't notice this on mine...
On the off chance that someone has a lose presilencer (#16400 single pipe), I have a request. Mine has an OEM hole threaded for something (? I plugged it), that's about three quarters to one end of the presilencer. If someone could look and let me know if this threaded hole is closer or further from the described inlet, I won't have to pull my presilencer to look...
Thanks!

I actually noticed it ... I got the RB presilencer too and all it is is sortof a pipe that goes maybe 2 inches inside the p/s ... I just bolted it towords the front cuz it made sense ( trying to give the airflow a straight passage ) ...

I called RB (again) and found out the "threaded hole" is for 6 port applications... It also should be closest to the header.
Mine's on backwards and I know I'm losing 10 HP for sure!
