Preparing my fuel tank

I'm about to take my car to a friend in Winston-Salem so he can put on a used carburetor. I need to re-install my fuel tank first. I searched on how to clean it. What I ended up doing was using lacquer thinner and a lot of bolts to agitate the tank. I think it's clean enough for my comfort now. Except I can't find the drain plug, anybody know the size and hardness? I also need a gasket for the fuel tank assembly, autozone doesn't carry that. I could get the cut your own gasket. Also I think I need a fuel strainer, or fuel sock, the screen isn't really attached very well to the plastic at the bottom. Thanks, zach

If you are going to make your own gasket you should get a leather punch tool. that way you can make nice neat holes for the screws. Also if you get a little hammer and beat the gasket material up against the surface that you are going to be cutting it out to fit then you will make an indentation to follow with your xacto knife. Oh yeah.. get an xacto knife too.

Oh I almost forgot. there IS a silicone that you can use for making gaskets that are foing to be exposed to gas like this one will be. Its permatex part #2b. Its a narrow white tube and is near the bottom of the rack that all of the sealants are in.
good luck

OK sounds good, but does anyone know the size of the drain bolt?
