Porting, and other questions

hey, I'm still kinda new to ratary engines, and I had a few questions about porting. I have an 85 gsl (12A) all stock except the exhaust which has been taken down to 1 Cat. converter from the origional 3. I am looking to get more power out of the 12A and was wondering if porting is my best option, or if there are other, better options. This car is my daily driver, but I'm just not satisfied with the power. I also would like to know how much a mild or small street port would cost and how it would effect my gas mileage, and engine life. also the car has had all major tune-up work done and runs great. the car has approx 105k miles. if anyone could help me out with some ideas of what to do I would appreciate it.

Do intake and exhaust modifications first. If you do not have smog in your state, this will help you tons more. Having a more free flowing carburetor and exhaust can net you a 50% gain. That should be your first step, because if you streetport it you will be needing the intake and exhaust anyways

If you plan on porting it, you will need a rebuild kit as well. Those run a pretty penny.
