Porting engine?

Well, winter is quickly approaching, and I'm thinking I need a project. I've found a few manuals and talked to some people about bridgeporting, so I think I'm gonna try it.

My engine is in need of a rebuild anyway. Anyone got some good, cheap 13B housings?

My main question lies in that since I just dropped all this money ($810 after shipping) for the RB streetport exhaust... is it gonna work for a bridgeported engine?

If not... a big streetport will still give me a lot more power, right?

I guess it's all just porting questions.... help?

Is the system you order collected at the midpipe? or is it true duals? It will work either way, obviously, your results will just vary. You're going to need expensive seals with a bridge-port as well, i don't know all of the details about it, but if i were you, i'd just stick to the most agressive street-port possible.

What are the expensive seals you need for a birdgeport? All I can think of would be carbon apex seals because the steel one start to chatter around 8K I think? But then again i thought the carbon seals were cheaper bu ti could be mistaken. Are there other seals that would need replacing to run a bridge port? I think you can even stick wiht the steel apex seals as long as you dont rev way high but i think that sort of defeats the purpose of getting a bridge :] also if you going to be revving higher there may be other mods you may want to look into $$

The stock seals need to be kept around 9k RPMs, the carbon apex seals i believe are alot more expensive than the stock steel ones. I'm never planning a bridge-port so i'm unsure. I would only guess anything stronger and better than stock would run a higher price tag. Struts excluded.

Carbon seals are definatly cheaper... Mazdatrix price They say they only last about 20k miles though. I knew they were short lived, but i didnt know it was that short. If i were you, ide go with the steel.

Thing with the carbon seals is they are lighter and will have lower compression at lower rpms, they are meant for high RPM usage. So I would think twice about using them on a street car. I have heard of them lasting more than 20K but havent actually seen it first hand so im not sure about that. Im sure they guess about milage on the low side to be safe.
