I was in my 88/91 GXL today and I pulled up next to a near mint 1st gen 85 to be exact. Any way it had 95k on it he bought it from an original owner that was a lady. He said he had bought it from her for 4k I think he got ripped off what do you think?

 

I dunno anything about 1st gen's but mine was in ok shape and I got it for 1500. So unless the car looked brand really ****** good I think he should have got her to come down in the price.

Yes, he paid too much unless it was a GSL-SE. However, he has a really nice car, and I don't think he could have done much better with his $4K.

Well, it may be hard to believe for an FC owner, but it is harder to find a mint FB than a mint FC I agree that it seems high, but it would be hard to spent that 4k$ on a better car. The FB may look dated, but for a classic lightweight sports coupe, it CAN"T be beat for the money. In twenty years, what will be worth more: an all original excellent condition FB, or an all original excellent condition FC? The FB is classic style and the original, while the FC is a rounded and updated version of the FB. I like the FC, but the FB is the first -well actually the SA.

 

besides, the FB looks better anyway

 

4k is high in my opinion. but if its in mint condtion. and runs strong. its up to the buyer. what do they say again.... one mans trash is another mans treasure.

what im getting at is you may not spend that much on an FB but some one else might.

I paid $3200 (incl. taxes & fees) for my 84. I got a bunch of crazy parts, and a new motor that was rebuilt when it was pulled at 36k miles from the donor car, and it only had 4k miles on that motor when I drove it home.

I agree, $4000 is probably too high for a GS or GSL, but, maybe just right for a mint SE........with a few less miles.

 

I would pay 4K for a mint Ocean Blue or White SE in a heartbeat. Remember these a hard to come by.

For just a clean 1st gen, I'd say it's a bit much, but I paid $3K for mine back in 93.

If I were to sell mine now, it'd be for more than $3k, but as my pics have shown, it's well-loved and is being modded nicely. I'm not looking to sell it though, so don't even bother

 

Wow. That car looks great! If it was near that good when you bought it, it was worth it.

The other thing to consider is that 25 year old cars become valuable and prized, so the SAs are approaching a big change in value.

I paid $4200 for my 82GS, but it had a rebuilt turbo motor swap already in it with a T76.

The interior and exterior were in 95% condition with aftermaket wheels and new Yokohama AVS's.

Depending on the condition of the car, I wouldn't say 4g is a bad investment in a first gen. I mean seriously, if the car's been taken care of, and driven well, then it's better to have one wth 100k miles on it then one with 50k miles. If cars are let sit, they do bad things!

Let's just say that if it had 100k miles, but the engine compartment still looked anything *close* to Manntis', I'd jump on it in an instant (www.rotorhead.ca for manntis' Pamela)

Yes, EVEN for a GS, since I like carburetors better.

 

I paid $3000 for my 83 GSL with 123K miles on it. I think I did pay a little too much, but I'm really happy with the car. It was a single owner, always garaged/car covered, perfect mechanical shape car. It was also bone stock, which is something I wanted so I know that no one else has tried to tinker with it. The car was totally clean, no rust because the guy put on Zeibart (or something like that) rust coating when he first got it. Overall, I think I could have gotten away with $2500 for it, but I don't regret paying $3000. An FB like this doesn't come around very often. A good FB is hard to come by now. But back to the topic, I think $4,000 might have been a little high, but there might be something about it that he had to have. For me it was the rust proofing that set mine apart, not to mention the awesome shape. Plus, I got "The Club" with it :P

I recently calculated that if I do the few things required to bring this 85GSL with 54k back to showroom quality I'd make $30 profit on my $1700 investment. So I think that was a pretty good price.
