So, he got all the way to the store and halfway back just on the fuel in the bowl?

Wow.

Oh, wait... no, just "...to price one out[,] and half way down the road..." not "...to price one[,] out and half way [back] down the road..."

I misread. "Half way down the road" could be 30 seconds of driving, huh?

I keep forgetting you FB guys need the rear ignition for the fuel pump. Not part of my worldview.

i couldnt find an ignitor for a mazda rx7 so i used one of an old nissan 200sx i think it was. it works great and the connectors were almost identical i got it for 20 bucks. its idling almost mint now but still lower than it should its idling at about 600 but all saprk plugs are sparking. now i have to fix my exhaust because i guess since it was running so poorly the exhaust put some holes in itself. thanks alot for your guys help. i was also wondering should the car backfire at all because it is a rotary?

Go to www.sterlingmetalworks.com and read up on tuning the idle. He's got a great writeup with step by step instructions.

One you seal up all the leaks in the exhaust system, the backfiring should stop...

Hello, all.
I've had a similar problem. Sometimes my '85 GSL won't start, sometimes it dies on me when slowing down to a stop, either going forward or backing up, once when accelerating from a stop it stalled, etc.

Since I could not always hear the fuel pump kicking on, I thought it was a fuel pump problem, so I changed the fuel pump and filter, and also the spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Still had the problem (when it didn't work, I couldn't hear the pump, and tested the circuit using a 12V bulb at the connector under the driver's junk compartment (no power).

I pulled the J-109 igniters and tested them using the "checking igniter setup, and when I applied a current to them, the light would stay on, for both units (not flashing, like the manual says). Is that a problem?

Or could it be the trailing coil? I guess my next foray is to clean the connections to the coils...

I also had a kill switch on the fuel pump circuit as an improvised anti-theft device. I removed it because I thought that might be the cause.....

Idling has been rough for quite a while, but I'm thinking that it needs a tune up....
Will occasionally backfire.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
